‘Deinstitutionalising disabled people’ project in Greece

Question for written answer E-000513-19 to the Commission

Rule 130
Theodoros Zagorakis (PPE)

Subject: ‘Deinstitutionalising disabled people’ project in Greece
Following the disclosure of shameful images inside Greek institutions for children with disabilities, and in order to harmonise the Greek authorities’ actions with the European Disability Strategy 2010-2020, the appropriate Greek authorities launched the ‘Deinstitutionalising disabled people’ project in December 2017.

The key objectives of the project included the organisation and operation of structures, activities and projects for the deinstitutionalisation of people with disabilities who used to live in Social Welfare Centres, especially the relocation of all patients to safe and supportive or family-based structures.

Can the Commission say:

Does it have information on how the implementation of the activities being carried out under this project in Greece has progressed?

Has it financed activities to deinstitutionalise persons with disabilities in Greece? If yes, what assessment has it made of the results achieved so far?
