Subject: Areas in the Municipality of Nea Propontida and elsewhere in Greece excluded from compensatory allowances
Many Greek farmers are angered by the Ministry of Rural Development’s failure to include them in the areas demarcated as being characterised by natural or other specific disadvantages.
Measure 13 on compensatory allowances constitutes significant aid to livestock and arable farmers in Greece. For example, in the case of the Municipality of Nea Propontida in the Regional Unit of Chalkidiki, agricultural organisations report that the competent authorities failed to use accurate data, which led to 18 local villages being excluded from the measure.
Local organisations in many other regions of Greece have raised similar issues. Up to November 2018, the Commission did not have complete data on the entire procedure, since the evaluation procedures for 36 rural development programmes, including the Greek programme, were still pending at that point.
In view of the above, will the Commission say:
How does it view this state of affairs? Does it have any data on the way in which these areas were demarcated in Greece? What is the current state of the programmes which were still pending at the end of 2018?
Will it take measures to ensure that farmers who are entitled to benefit from the measure in question are not excluded?
